Brilliant to learn on how to use and work with AutoCad 2015, for those who just upgrade from a earlier version and also for total newbie's.
Just one small drawback for non american =>>> examples are using imperial and not metric, when will our American friends catch up ? ;-D

Great book for learning AutoCAD from scratch

Great book for learning AutoCAD from scratch. Went through the first couple chapters to get me started and then just found what I needed from there. Was able to create 3D solids in about 2 hours using this book. Gave only 4 stars because the Website did not make downloading the examples easy.

Nice thick catalog

[[VIDEOID:28186381]]This is a very simple book. It's a catalog of logos -- the logo, the designer and logo's company.

The categorization is by logotypes, letters, wordmarks, initials, typographic elements, symbols, abstract and representational. Under these are future categorization. Please view the picture below large to get an idea because it's hard to explain.

The collection of logos featured are primarily printed in black and white in this book. The lead in page however, has the logos (small), in color.

That's pretty much about this book. Oh, and it's thick at 350 pages, more so because it's printed on 160gsm (I guess) matt paper.

Excellent with reservations

This is a nicely conceived book but has a few problems. None of which stopped me from buying it!
The design and typography used to differentiate sections of the book (groups and categories in the book or classifications of types of symbols, logotypes, signatures, etc.) is difficult to use. If the actual type and design to differentiate these sections had been more clearly done, the book would have been much more useful and leveraged one of its greatest assets. (So, whoever designed the book made that mistake!)
The last section of the book is on multiple solutions used for one identity. This is in contrast to most identity design which uses only one logo or symbol (Apple, Nike, 99% of the book).
This multiple identity solution (sorry, the author calls it something else but I don't have the book with me at home while I write this) is a trend that is emerging slowly over the past 10-15 years. But the coverage in this book is very thin. There are a number of other examples of this method which are not included. I wish there was more on this.
One thing I would like to have seen more of is deeper historical context of identities. More text on, about, why, and who of each or most of the designs. Right now, it is just a picture collection.
Not so much a flaw but something to consider - This book has the greats. Old and newer and very new. But it also has some real silly stinker examples. You wonder, why is that logo in here? For example: the ugly reworking of the UPS logotype shield. Why include this? (and I am not a fan of Paul Rands original although, it would have been far better to included for historical impact purposes)
Indeed, this is the bible and shows the good, the bad, and the ugly but all on a level playing field.

Great reference

As a design student, I have been looking for a book that has collection of logo to reference and analyze. This book is a great reference to see logos that are substantial and corporate. It contains logos that are well known to small. Also, most of all the logos are in black and white which I find it better to understand the form.

great book written by a recent Nobel laureate

This is a great book to understand and be familiar with bioluminescence which exist everywhere in the our surrounding lives. The book describes what you would like to know about bioluminescence including historical point of view and the author's life work dedicated for studying bioluminescence. The author was awarded 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovery of green fluorescent protein, GFP, in the jellyfish that made huge impact in biomedical science by allowing visualization of protein behavior in vivo.

Delivers the funky goods

I'm a teacher, and while I'm not a drummer, I understand what good teaching is. David Garabaldi has done an exemplary job as a teacher with this book and CD. He breaks down what he does into small, easy steps, and then shows the student, not only how to put it together, but how to practice the parts so that they can be learned effectively and easily. Is it quick? No. Good things never are. With music (as in so many things worth doing) you have to be willing to put in the time if you want to get it right. David shows you how to make that time investment really pay off.

I highly recommend _The Code of Funk_ to anyone who wants to learn this style of playing. Will it take time? Yes, but if you follow what's laid out here, you'll find it's not wasted time. Not only that, but the big payoff is that when you DO have it down, you'll get to play 8 tunes with Tower of Power! How cool is that?

Advanced Linear funk

This book is definetely not for the faint hearted!! Inside is pages of solid manuscript, and the grooves will not come quickly unless you already have some linear funk experience! The transcription quality is superb, dead precise, but there's still loadsa room for improvisation! It's great to be able to look at all this linear funk in the context of the songs too.

If this is your first venture into linear/new orleans funk, I'd recommend one of David's other books, Future Sounds first, as it will ease you in a lot smoother. Otherwise this book might put you off!!!

Other than that, the cd extras are so genoerous, if you've got pro-tools or whatever program you can have quite a bit of fun with it all!!

Not for beginners

"The Code of Funk" by David Garibaldi is not for beginners. This is an advanced book with his written out performances from the most recent Tower of Power CD release. Included is a pair of CD/DVD's as well as an audio CD of "music minus drums" so you can play along with Tower (a dream for many of us). The DVD's give a range of options with which to mix and filter as well as receive extra instruction.
The book notation is nearly overwhelming, not bad, mind you, but overwhelming because of the nature of the beast. It's precise. It's what he is actually performing. The syncopation between hands and feet as well as his placement of left hand/bass drum accents are fascinating. This is a great opportunity to develop independence and "freer" thinking. It's challenging, but to improve we all need the challenge. Thanks, David, for an inspiring, and frustrating, lesson.

Better than Vol. 1

The introduction of birdbrained Papi, the harpy, adds a lot to the story. (Actually introduced in Vol. 1, but makes a bigger impression here.) She's the most human-like of the monster girls, is straightforward in personality, is reasonably proportioned (see earlier review in vol. 1), and kinda dumb. But nice. Her innocent and uninhibited personality makes for good comedy. I don't care for Cerea the centaur. Her proportions (that is, boobs) are beyond ridicule, almost sad. Supposedly the stiff, well mannered motherly type, she's just a downer.

Next we meet the illegal alien jelly girl whose name (of course) is Suu. Why are manga artists fascinated with this name? Suu doesn't speak Japanese, or possibly not at all, but she is the weirdest yet. All the "monster girls" are supposed to be girls, but I have my doubts about Suu. In her first meeting with the crew, she violates all the other girls chastity, but in a hilarious way.

This manga is edgy, pushing my boundaries with unanticipated semi-erotic situations. This is also part of it's charm. It is lighthearted and not seriously hentai. The male protagonist Kimihito keeps his cool and threads the needle, lots of tension but no consummation or heartbreak. By its own lights, it is a innocent harem style roma-com. With a heavy dose of fan service.

His troubles have just begun

Poor Kimihito, just when he was starting to get used to having three lovely monster girls under his roof, their handler throws a new wrinkle and suggests that he marries one of the three, be it magnificient Miia, precocous Papi, or curvacous Centora. But the news does not come at a good time, as the full moon in hanging high and all three girls are feeling their "animal" instincts. Now he has to deal with making a big decision, deal with Miia's reptilian nature when she needs him to help her, and learn more about the monster world and the creatures in it - or he might not even MAKE it to the altar.

this story picks up right where the last one ended and does not let up. With each story comes new developments, new characters (especially the lovable Suu), and more problems for our poor host hero. And unlike other series, he knows all three of the girls care for him and love him in their own ways and he does come up with a solution to the problem showing that he has a brain as well a good heart. A series like this should get an anime series going and if so I will have to buy it when it comes over to the states. I can not wait for the next book to see what happens next.

I think I have a thing for monster girls.

We're all here for the same reason. You don't actively look for a Monster Musume book for no reason. Unless maybe you're buying it as a gift for a friend that likes the series. I like Monster Musume and my friends look at me like "Yup, that's our weird anime lover."

Content-wise: I loved the book.
Physically: Book was sharp, clean, not sun-bleached.
