Tell us a little bit about your book, who is it aimed at and how will it help them?
This book is a comprehensive textbook of pediatric echocardiography. It covers the latest advances in ultrasound imaging of the heart in children, and also deals with congenital heart disease in fetuses and adults. The textbook is aimed at those who practice and teach pediatric and congenital echocardiography. It provides a comprehensive, integrated approach to pediatric cardiac ultrasound and includes information about the anatomy, pathophysiology, and goals of the echocardiographic examination for each lesion before, during, and after treatment.

What inspired you to write the book?
We, the editors, saw a great need for an updated reference textbook for our trainees and for our colleagues and their trainees. It has been over a decade since the release of the last comprehensive textbook on this topic.

What do you hope readers will get out of it?
The chapters are written by experts throughout North American and Europe. Despite the wide geographic distribution of the authors, a consistent and thorough approach to pediatric echocardiography is provided. The readers will also have a DVD with hundreds of examples of key anatomic and functional issues mentioned in the text

What is different about your book from others in the field?
Its main attraction is that it is recently released and incorporates the latest technologies. It provides a perspective from authors drawn from most of the major pediatric cardiology centers on two continents. It is also the first comprehensive textbook to provide illustrative video clips, which greatly improve the readers’ ability to understand the information in the text and still figures.

What is your day job?
I run a non-invasive pediatric cardiology imaging laboratory at an academic medical center.

How did you get into this line of work?
I like taking care of children, and I enjoy the challenge of diagnosing and treating congenital heart disease. I have had great role models who were devoted to their patients but who also loved to teach.

What would you be if you were not a doctor?
I’d do something else that requires puzzle solving. Perhaps I’d be an engineer or an architect.

And finally, did you enjoy writing this book, and are you planning any others?
It was fun to work with my co-editors and all the authors. Everyone was willing to squeeze in this work despite being already incredibly busy. We’d like to update the textbook periodically in order to keep it relevant and on the cutting edge. Future editions should be more electronically based and accessible to readers over the internet.

A must have for the pediatric echocardiographer

This is a truly exelent book, a lot of precise information in a relatively small space. The format of each section is the same through-out, and makes it fairly easy to find the relevant information. The first chapters, on equipment, standards and the ewxamination is also of a high standard. While I don't agree on every statement everywhere the chapters are well referenced and the pertinent points clearly made so this book should be a good fundament for further discussions in the echo labs.

If you are going to by just one book on this subject, this should be it.

Videos do not work in Kindle edition

We bought the kindle edition and the videos in the book will not play. We chatted with the wiley's representative, he said "I am sorry in kindle edition you will not be able to watch the videos.
The book is incomplete without the videos.
Thereafter we contacted the publisher via email, they replied to our email but that's it. NO SOLUTION.
Its been one month and still the videos do not play.
So if at all you buy the kindle edition, understand that you are not getting your money's worth.

I am a senior Adult Tech .A few years ago someone recommended me this book but because of the price and the fact that back then Doing Peds wasn't high demand .I didnot buy one.I was told by a co-worker who works in UCLA that THIS IS THE REAL DEAL FOR PEDS...and let me tell you this...IT SURE IS THE BEST

Excellent and inspiring reference for public relations

This is an excellent reference and college textbook on public relations. It provides pretty much everything one needs for successfully implementing various approaches in public relations, memorable stories and characters of history, techniques and theory. One interesting and memorable point here is how some public relations moguls have used controversy as a successful public relations tool. The book is filled with profiles of successful public relations figures. I would recommend it for anyone whose work touches on that field.

One of the most widely read and studied texts composed in Late Antiquity is the prison diary of Vibia Perpetua, a young woman of the elite classes who was martyred in March of the year 202 or 203 C.E. in Carthage, as part of a civic celebration honoring Caesar Geta. She was well-married and had recently become the mother of a baby son, but despite her advantages, she refused to recant her faith when she was arrested with other recent converts to Christianity. Imprisoned with her was her pregnant slave Felicity. Perpetua's steadfastness in her belief led to her martyrdom in the amphitheater. A description of the heroic deaths of both women, and the autobiography of one of the leaders of the Christian community, Saturus, is woven into Perpetua's diary by an anonymous editor, who tells us that, as they died, Perpetua, Felicity, and the other condemned Christians bid farewell with a kiss of peace.

This unique and precious text survives in one Greek and in nine Latin manuscript versions. Thomas Heffernan's new study contains much that has never been done before, including a prosopography of all the individuals mentioned in the Passion, a new English translation and the first detailed historical commentary in English on the entire narrative of the Passion. It also includes a newly edited version of the Latin text based on all the extant manuscripts and - rarer still - the Greek text. He concludes the book with a complete codicological description of all of the known manuscripts and thorough scholarly indices of the text itself. Perpetua's prison diary is a revered text of early Christianity, and Heffernan's new translation and commentary brings unprecedented scholarly resources to the much-loved Passion.

Jackson concludes by examining experiences at the end of the twentieth century, comparing and contrasting the differing concepts of 'equality' that have shaped women's involvement in the police service.

Before the later 14th century, Russia was an assembly of small independent states, plagued by infighting and lingering under the overlordship of the Mongols. By the late 15th century the unification was complete, and a large single state with a capital in Moscow was formed. Many of the feudal Russian states minted coins of their own starting in the 14th century, using new and original designs and naming their own rulers. The coinage, almost unknown in the West, exhibits a fascinating diversity, with many hundreds of types in silver and bronze produced. These early coins include imitations of the Mongol (Golden Horde) dangs, coins combining Russian elements and Islamic elements and, finally, a huge range of purely Russian coins showing a surprising variety of designs including biblical themes and verses, mythological themes and animals, numerous violent scenes of fighting, stabbings, decapitations and other things one might expect from medieval coins. Other strange things found on these coins are designs showing Alexander of Macedon, scenes of homage, scenes of coin minting and ever-present Russian inscriptions naming the ruling Dukes. This catalogue includes descriptions and images of many hundreds of coins, from the inception of the native Russian coinage to the eventual unification of types under the Vasily Ivanovich of Moscow (1505-1533). Coins of the Russian states which were not conquered by Moscow (such as Lithuania and Red Russia) are also included this book. The relative rarity ranking for all the listed coins is also given, which should be of immense help to any collector of medieval coins. The information is based on the most modern numismatic research available, but is presented in a simple-to-use way, aiming to introduce this fascinating coinage to the wide circle of both collectors and researchers. This book is an English version of "Russian Coins 1353-1533" edition of 2013 which has now become a standard catalogue for Russian medieval coins collectors being actually a first publication of such scale since 19th century catalogues.
