Dr. Todd Whitaker (@ToddWhitaker) is a professor of educational leadership at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is a leading presenter in the field of education and has written more than 30 books, including the national best seller, What Great Teachers Do Differently.
Dr. Jeffrey Zoul (@Jeff_Zoul) is Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning with Deerfield Public Schools District 109 in Deerfield, Illinois. He is also the author of several books, including Improving Your School One Week at a Time and The 4 CORE Factors for School Success, co-authored with Dr. Todd Whitaker.

I happened to stumble across this book through amazon's recommendations, and it was a very pleasant surprise. It had an immediate impact on how I viewed the field. It provided examples that resulted in me being more involved on twitter, google communities, and various other personal learning networks. I've come across resources that I used in my instruction, and I likely would not have found if it had not been for this book.

Fresh Perspective was Helpful

Every summer, I choose one professional development book to read. Next year, I am moving from a classroom into the computer lab as my school's new Technology Teacher, so I searched for a more appropriate text. This book did not disappoint. It gave me a fresh perspective on teaching technology to any student and has helped fire me up to do my best in my new position. I recommend this book to any new teacher, technology teacher, or anyone who is looking to bring technology more fluidly into their classrooms.

Not only do they make a strong case for the importance of being connected and the impact doing so can have on you both personally and professionally, but they provide you all of the resources you need to build a strong professional learning network from day one! If you are new to social media and want a guidebook to why and how to get started, then get this book now! Follow their advice and you will quickly begin to notice a positive transformation in your own learning and start to understand the power of making a contribution to the global education community.
Even as more experienced users of social media, we walked away from this book with new ideas, new people to follow and learn from,and new blogs and websites that have propelled our learning forward. Each chapter wraps up with practical advice in the form of "Follow 5, Find 5, and Take 5" which EVERY educator will find valuable as they work to become connected educators committed to making a difference.
This is a must read book and one we will recommend to other educators time and time again. Well done!
