Beware of conflicts of interest!

I have a lot of respect for Tony's achievements as peak performance coach as well as his engagements as philanthropist. Also, I applaud his effort to share his insights on pitfalls (hidden fees, flawed brokerage model, etc.) with the masses. As an industry insider I have to say that quite a few statements were inaccurate or even misleading. I'm sure Tony simplified with good intentions for making a difficult subject more understandable. The oversimplifications and omissions however can lead to unintended risk exposures and losses. Why only two stars? His constant plug for one investment firm (there are 47 mentions of that firm's name) put me off. At least he disclosed that he was discussing his role with that firm at the time of writing the book but when I found in FINRA's broker check that his son works for that firm, he lost my trust as "fiduciary" and credible author on that subject completely.

Chapter 2 and Chapter 5 worth the price of the book alone! One of the best personal finance books ever written.

I want to start off by saying that I'm not a follower of Tony's motivational literature. When I was younger my mother purchased some of his books and tapes and while they were somewhat inspiring, I never was one to draw my "passion for life" reading any book other than the Bible. I couldn't tell you what Tony's done or written since his 'Get the Edge' series that was mass marketed on television back in the late 90's.. but I can tell you what I'm pleasantly surprised with, and frankly glad I'm I came across this new finance book because a few of the chapters are "worth their weight in gold." These are Chapters 2 and 5, but please continue reading my review to understand why.

-To give you some background I've been reading personal finance books since the late 90's starting with titles like 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' by Robert Kiyosaki, 'Automatic Millionaire' by David Bach, every Dave Ramsey and Ben Stein title ever written, most of Larry Burkett's scripture based Business and Finance books and Crown Financial information, Random Walk down wall street, etc. etc. To make a long story short let's just say I've read dozens of personal finance or retirement books starting from age 16 up until my present age of 31 so I can tell when something is new or old fluff, or just plain made up. I've also an investor so I have skin in the game.

-Some people are reading these reviews and they just want to know if this book will help them manage their money or make money, and to cut to to the chase yes this book can both make you alot of money and save you even more money. After reading Tony's book I've placed it among the top 10 personal finance titles I've ever read and that list reads like the who's who of books that can actually make a huge impact on the financial future of the average American. If you don't like to read it doesn't matter, just buy the book and read Chapter 2 and 5 and then give it to a friend or delete it, but just read those two chapters.

-What makes this book so valuable and easily worth the price I paid ($12 on Kindle). Let me summarize, and we're going to throw out all the chapters and information that was motivational jargon because I didn't buy this book to be motivated on living life to the fullest and I don't think most of you reading this did either.

1. THE INTERVIEWS. Most of these interviews were not rehash's of what you could find in other books, and a couple of them could be downright life altering if people were to employ some of the advice given by a few of the men or start to follow a few of these men with regard to what they are doing with their investments. The possible life-changing and or interviews that offered terrific advice, tidbits of information that could save you time and money, stock market psychology, and or getting insight into those with your interest at heart. If you browse Yahoo finance and or blogs you can occasionally glean tidbits of gold regarding finance wisdom from some of the best of the best who have both integrity and the average joe investor in mind when they are giving out advice. These are some of the men who realize that most people who need this information are not making a 6 figure income and yet while most of them have wealth in the 7 figure range they don't forget about the rest of us and want to help us to avoid mistakes with our money.

Carl Icahn. Rarely does this man give longer interviews, but Tony Robbins just may have one of the best interviews ever done with Carl Icahn. Carl Icahn is an activist investor. This type of investor attempts to take control of companies they believe are underperforming(usually due to poor management) and then take them over or make changes that will benefit both the shareholder and the activist. As a result in most cases employees and customers benefit also. Carl Icahn is one of the few power brokers on Wall Street who by following you can make quite a bit of money because he will make a poorly operating company do better by holding management accountable, and as a result he has and will continue to help the American People by making our companies more efficient and better which can enrich everyone. After you read this interview you will understand why it's important to follow the moves this man makes.

David Swensen. Great interview, a good overview of asset allocation and risk management, shows why playing it safe for a long time is smart. Great tidbits to learn.

Ray Dalio. Just getting the broken down into easy terms "All Weather Portfolio" is worth the price of the book alone and much more. This information is covered in Chapter 5. He must have owed Tony a huge debt to give out this information. Next to an index fund this is the best portfolio I've ever seen and the results it has brought prove it. You won't find anything better, but most people should have a broad ranged index fund before attempting to copy an allocation like the all weather.

Paul Tudor Jones. Some of the investing psychology(not stock picking advice, but market psychology) he gives in his interview is as if you are sitting in a premier top 10 MBA rated program's class and studying under his stock market tutelage. You simply can't hear these things anywhere else and unless your in a very elite group that are getting MBA's at the very top finance schools you probably never will.

John Bogle. What more can anyone say, he revolutionized investing for the common man by introducing the index fund and if you don't have one you really need one ASAP. Watch every interview with John Bogle you can find on youtube if you want a quick study in long term investing with the best possible outcome for the average person. I personally believe John Bogle has made more of an impact on the finances of the average American than anyone in history ever has or ever will, he truly is both a pioneer and a sort of modern day hero who put the common man above greed and reshaped Wall Street and investing forever.

Warren Buffet. I can tell in this interview Mr. Buffet was just doing Tony a favor by giving a short interview to a friend but he didn't really give any advice you couldn't find anywhere else nor did he dive into any strategies or ideas for the common person. I put him with these others because of his track record. If you purchase a few of his BRK-B stock shares and hold them for a very long time you will probably do pretty well, but Warren Buffet would tell all average investors to get an index fund and not try their hand at picking stocks. He basically will mimic what John Bogle says in most of his interviews but John Bogle goes much deeper, is more interesting, has more integrity, and just does it better.

-Yes a few of the interviews were not very good and I discuss those below. They in my opinion revealed little information, did not know how to convey investment advice to the average person, or just came across as sort of a self pat on the back in my opinion and wouldn't make much impact to the future financial wellness of the reader. Remember, just because someone is ultra wealthy in no way means they have you interest in mind nor can their advice or circumstances be applied to your own life.

-These people from this book in my opinion who you shouldn't listen to include:

Marc Faber(Commodities speculator who is a very shrewd and astute insider, I don't think he can be trusted personally, but when it came to giving advice he came across as a guy just throwing information out there just to give an interview almost as if he wasn't really sure what to say, like he was picking random numbers out of his head and giving them to Tony.)

T. Boone Pickens (Just talks about himself most of the interview, you can find better advice elsewhere.)

Kyle Bass (Made most of his money off an incredible speculation and talks about purchasing millions in nickels with little information given for the regular investor. It's my belief he either isn't very knowledgeable when it comes to investing for regular people or he simply cannot convey the information in a manner with tools he has never used for the average person. He is an algorith based trader and has access to both tools and information most people don't have. I would never listen to his advice based upon his history even though he is successful, his success cannot be repeated.

-I group these next three together because their interviews mainly went through their personal histories and discussed why the success occurred and the importance of integrity and a customer first approach in the finance world:
Mary Callahan Erdoes, Charles Schwab, Sir John Templeton (Mostly discusses the type of work ethic, integrity, and fortitude needed to be successful and also to leave a legacy for your family or people who's money you are investing.

-So what makes this book so valuable, and why am I saying you must include this in your collection if you're a person under 50 looking to improve your finances.

2. Simply because of Chapter 2 and Chapter 5.

-Chapter 2 covers some of the things you've read in other finance books before, usually John Bogle's or Ben Stein's, but it discusses the Myths of the market and advisor fees. It discusses investment broker actual returns and debunks many of the common beliefs among the uneducated majority regarding how to make money with investing or retirement plans. The way this chapter is organized regarding the myths of the market and annuities is invaluable. The information on annuities for anyone under 50 is pure gold, and I have yet to see even a handful of books that ever covered the Annuity, which is starting to grow like wildfire and probably the best option for most of us with less than $500,000-1,000,000 at retirement.

-Chapter 5. This is the best chapter of the book bar none. Ray Dalio's all weather portfolio is simply unmatched and having an in-depth guide of why and how it was designed, and then actually broken down into easy to understand choices is truly incredible. Yes you can and should invest in an Index Fund, and by now we know that 95% of portfolio managers will never beat the stock market over a long time frame such as 20-30 years, but the all weather portfolio created by Ray Dalio's team just may give you better or at least safer returns with less downside risk than even a broad market index fund. I'm still left wondering how Tony got them to do this and give up this much information on this fund. On top of that, there is a larger annuity and retirement information section which goes in depth on the importance of the 3 year window into retirement and how just the stock market return of the first 3 years of a person's retirement can make or break them, and WILL... unless they read the information on annuities.

-On top of all this great information, section after section has Tony giving good links on how to access both more information. Going through this book you can see that Tony actually cares to help the uneducated average investor gain the tools to invest both wisely and and safely. Most finance books give you the what to do(or at least attempt to), but Tony's goes beyond and actually gives you both tools and the where to go to get more information and possibly help.

-To top of these great chapters there is also a chapter on the future of American technology which goes into the advances being made in healthcare and engineering with the creation of 3D printers and how people are continually living longer so what we do with our money today is very important for a potentially long tomorrow. On top of this unlike many finance books, Tony goes into the importance of giving and how it can change a person's life and bring more fulfillment far beyond any dream or desire to be rich. Tony actually explains how and why giving is so important, and it's refreshing to see even a non Christian hold such a high view of giving our time and resources back to those who are less fortunate.

So take my review for what you will, as someone who's read dozens of finance books and will only give applause to something that is both different and worth reading and knowing. I believe this book is very good just for those 2 chapters, especially if you are under 50 and have a long term horizon to invest with and haven't made tons of mistakes yet. For those who ar e older they undoubtedly should discuss retirement with a financial planner and look into insurance/annuities and stable funds. Below I will list my top Finance guru's and what I believe are some of the must read books in this field that all have information that can change your financial future as this book can do.

Best personal finance guru's, the very best of the best who's work you must read and I will include one book from each. These people have care about the common investor above selling books or making money. While some of the information may be a little outdated in one or two of these books, these are still the best of the best by far.

Must reads for personal finance with investment advice also
John Bogle (The Little book of common sense investing, watch his interviews on youtube or yahoo)
Larry Burkett (The complete guide to managing your money, planning for Retirement, Business by the Book)
Ben Stein (How to retire comfortably, The little black book of investing, how to ruin your financial future, most of his books)

Great books on investing that don't cover personal finance
Burton Malkiel (A Random Walk down Wall Street)
William Bernstein (The Four Pillars of Investing)

Honorable Mentions for personal finance, financial lifestyle etc.
Dave Ramsey(We all know about his books, very good for basic advice regarding personal budgeting, not better than the previously mentioned writers or their titles though)
David Bach (Automatic millionaire, Fight for your Money)

Are there any people you should be watching when it comes to how they are investing their money?
Only two in my opinion. Warren Buffet and Carl Icahn. Both of their basic stock offerings are in the 100's still. I believe Carl Icahn's IEP is up over 1000% since inception and Buffet's BRK-B is up 24% this year alone. Watch what Warren Buffet does because he has insider access to large changes in the economy and the government, and watch Carl Icahn because he creates huge changes in companies by forcing their management to become better in every way and with that usually comes great returns for shareholders.

Good investment advice and information, but take it with a grain of salt.

I've been a fan of Tony Robbins for a long time, so obviously this review may be a bit biased. However, one of the reasons I enjoy his work is because he doesn't really preach that change is easy and all you have to do is a few easy things. Rather, he typically indicates that massive and consistent changes are required to radically alter your life, which I think is fair.

As to the book, I am about 3/4 of the way through, and have learned a few things even though I am very well informed about retirement and investment strategies. I also read several online critiques about the book, usually written by investment "gurus" who would also have difficulty being objective about what Tony has to say, in particular because one of the consistent themes of the book is that many investment advisors can do no better at picking stocks than a roomful of monkeys throwing darts at a board. Research supports that claim. The investment strategies presented by Tony's "experts" are indeed generalized, which is understandable since these billionaire hedge fund managers are not going to kill their golden geese by giving away trade secrets. It's also important to note that Tony has a vested financial interest in some of the wealth management companies he recommends, but he does acknowledge this. But he does indicate several organizations that have strong investment records and/or low fees, including the one that I use for my retirement funds, TIAA-CREF. So, it was nice to have that confirmation.

Ultimately, what this book has really done for me is prod me to be more proactive in managing my retirement funds. Because my retirement money is set up via my employer, and I don't have a separate stock portfolio outside of this, I am not as heavily involved in managing my investments as I otherwise would be. But now that I've read most of this, I've been highly motivated to review my portfolio, and reassess my investment options, which is particularly important as I am closing in on retirement age.

All in all, approach all financial and investment advice with a healthy dose of skepticism, but know also that there is some good information to have to guide your approach in this book. As with your portfolio, you should also diversify your sources of investment advice. Best of luck to you all.

About the Author
Wendy Pini is the co-creator, writer, artist and colorist for the long-running fantasy graphic novel series Elfquest. She has also written and painted two Beauty and the Beast graphic novels, as well as a critically acclaimed 400-page dark, futuristic re-imagining of Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death." She lives in Los Angeles. Richard Pini is the co-creator, sometimes-writer, editor and publisher for the long-running fantasy graphic novel series Elfquest. Makes me love EQ even more!

Wow! What a beautiful book! Wendy's art and the story of Elfquest are easily the most influential things in my life, and this book just solidifies that connection! Any EQ fan SHOULD and better purchase this amazing book that is number 2 in a wonderful 3 part series!

As Christians, in this present church age, Jesus says He wants to "sup" with us; in other words sit down with us at the dinner table. That is a major problem we Christians and churches have. He has the cure and tells us that in Rev. 3:20 in the Bible.
Jesus Adrian Romero writes and provokes one to think about how that may be done. It made me think corporately and personally about this desire Jesus wants for us, and with us as His church. Definitely a good, practical and thought provoking read.

Unique and extremely hot!

Unique novel with a touch of Game of Thrones. The story is beautifully narrated and we get to know the perspectives of some of the different characters. I really enjoyed getting to know and to understand them better after finding about their personal lives and what lead them to the actual circumstances. The sex scenes are really hot and even if, sometimes, I don't agree with some of the acts, they are reasonable under those circumstances and in that society.

I really loved how the author describes the places where the story takes place and the two cultures and societies involved. For some hours she brought me back to the Game of Thrones books, but with romance and erotic scenes ;-)

The only thing I didn't appreciate was the cliffhanger. Lately it seems that most of novels I am reading have a cliffhanger and it is difficult to keep up with all the publication dates and all the books coming up. It's very time consuming and frustrating for the readers and I'm positive that more than one series I really enjoyed I'll miss checking if a new instalment was published and, consequently, totally forget about it. However, I hope Ms. Wolfe publishes a new book soon so I don't forget her because I cannot wait for her next book!!

A Fantasy Tale worth the Telling

In this alternate world, the dwellers of Arcadia are protected from the Dark beings by the Wildlanders, a fiercely honorable race that lives outside the walls of Arcadia. The women of Arcadia are kept "pure" by preventing them from enjoying pleasures. The women must be thin, blond and prim to be considered good wife material. There is a long standing agreement between their Commissioner and the elders of the Wildlanders that the latter will protect the city dwellers in exchange for their unwanted women. Ava is not of the desired norm and has always felt different, but one day at the market she meets one of the Wildlanders and not long afterwards she finds herself being a tribute bride not just to that very warrior, but to his three classmates as well.
Ava has a hard time adjusting to their ways, but I have to say, the way the Wildlander's world is described I would pick it over Arcadia any day. They play hard and are fiercely loyal to their clan and family. I came away realising that they had far more admirable traits than the city dwellers.
The story contains explicit sex with Ava and her four mates as well as some m/m between two of her mates. A theme throughout is doing the right thing for the good of the whole and the value of honor.
While the Wildlanders certainly have fierce warriors, they are ruled by the elder women, unlike the city dwellers that place little value on women in general.

If you are a nobody wanting to be a somebody, "Quit!"

There's something about this book that hit's me wrong. But as much as I hate to admit it, it's totally right.

The whole world right now is about getting noticed. If you are in business, just hunkering down and doing the work is no longer acceptable. There must be innovation, transformation and marketing of your idea. This is done in the boardroom all the way down to the boiler room.

Social media is all about standing out. We try to write clever Facebook status posts, hoping for "engagement" and likes. Twitter reposts are validation and the accumulation of friends and followers is the modern day treasure chest of status. Everyone is trying to be the loudest voice in a noisy world.

Embracing Obscurity is written by Anonymous. Right away I want to know the credibility of the writer, his theology, and his authority to speak truth. Just a few pages into the book and I'm realized that by looking at all of this first, I was missing the point on this book - and maybe my entire existence

We all want to be somebody. Whether it's an important opinion in the Bible study, a volunteer at the PTA, an innovator at work. If you are in the arts, you thrive on the cheers and adulation of those that admire your work.

There are Scriptural exhortations by the dozens that remind us about the pride that precedes the fall, the first becoming last, and the fate of the proud. Why do we ignore them and press on with the deception that we need to be somebody to be anybody? This book should rattle ministries to the core with its thunderous message of less.

"We have a misguided search for significance - a quest for success, wealthy, notoriety, power, or be in some way, any way different," the author writes. "When we accept that our value is not dependent on what we do or accomplish we are, ironically, liberated to do much for Christ."

It will make you do some soul searching

I received an advanced reader copy of this book. The book's marketer found me through my book review blog. I was sent a copy before it was made available to the public. I am proud that as a reviewer I received this book before anyone else.

The above statement makes me exactly the type of person who needs to read this book. It is about overcoming our pride problem. We all have one and this book will help you see that and hopefully overcome it by "Embracing Obscurity."

The author confronts us with the reality that we are "just 1 in 7 billion." By embracing obscurity the author means being content with being relatively unknown so that Christ can be made more known. Our time on earth will come and go but eternity is forever and it is for eternity we should live.

The key to obscurity's embrace is finding our significance in Christ. When we find our significance in Christ "we are freed from our vanity and can instead fulfill God's purposes for us" (p. 66). "To get to the place where we can truly embrace our obscurity, we'll have to sacrifice our dreams of worldly success and instead take on this humble disposition...the disposition of Christ" (p. 85).

The author provides a very helpful contrast between Christ's disposition of humility versus Satan's disposition of pride (pp. 50-51). Modeling Jesus Christ is only way to embrace obscurity.

He warns of falling for "The Joseph Principle." This is the dangerous misconception that
"If I am suffering in obscurity today, God must be preparing me for something greater, better, or more prominent later in life" (p. 116). "We comfort ourselves with this kind of self-talk because it's far more soothing than the thought of suffering for the sole purpose of God's glory or -heaven forbid- having to embrace obscurity indefinitely" (p. 118). We are prone to interpret the "all things for good" in Romans 8:28 to mean worldly success. "What if your good is soley to make His name great?" (p. 119).

Be forewarned, embracing obscurity will make you look crazy in the eyes of the world. "If our lifestyle doesn't even raise the eyebrows of the world, what does that say about our devotion to the gospel?" (p. 129). For Christians to die to self, to put others first, to serve in obscurity is very mysterious to the rest of humanity.
"So how about us? Are we living mysteriously? Are our lives marked by service, sacrifice, love for others, abandonment of self, dependency on God, or genuine passion to see the lost saved? Or are we more preoccupied with the things of the world? A cool car or job? A retirement account? A higher education or some humanitarian work? Maybe even some noble things done but for the wrong reasons? Do any decisions in our lives seem mysterious to those around us? Without mystery we have to wonder whether we have embraced the ways of the Father or imitated the world" (p. 134).

This is a thought-provoking book. It caused me some severe introspection. As Christ followers, it asks us to consider if every opportunity for advancement should be undertaken, even those where there are no scriptures violated. I "humbly" give it my recommendation.

Profitable, But Not Without Flaws

It isn't often that a book arrives by post penned by an anonymous author. The last time that happened? Well, never. So when I was asked to review Embracing Obscurity: Becoming Nothing in Light of God's Everything (B&H Books), I was intrigued, for we exist within a Christian subculture in which those who produce media want to be noticed, whether we are wordsmiths (written or spoken), film makers, or musicians. Bloggers are not immune. In fact, in the blogosphere, vainglory reigns supreme. Platform building, audience, click-throughs, exclusive interviews, and "first reviews" take pride of place. Everyone wants to be famous. In this respect, we aren't much different from the world, and I must confess I know these pains firsthand.

EO begins with a strong declaration of our problem, and a little bit of math. The author writes, "We're intoxicated with a desire to be known, recognized, appreciated, and respected. We crave to be a 'somebody' and do notable things, to achieve our dreams and gain the admiration of others. To be something--anything--other than nothing." Yet, the author notes, on a planet of "Seven billion, twenty five million, four hundred twenty thousand, three hundred ninety," it is difficult to stand out. We are all relatively obscure.

The author names up-front that remaining anonymous in publication is not a gimmick or a hoax, but is a genuine effort to live in accordance with the primary message of this book: embracing obscurity. Humility and lowliness are supreme values for the author, as well as the intention of deflecting glory to a greater source, God himself. The author writes, "It's about making Him, not ourselves, look good." Yet this is a paradox, one that can be seen in the life of Jesus himself, who in his very life gave glory to God in all things, and in succeeding, was elevated to the highest place.

Following a diagnosis of glory-seeking and a declaration of our relative unimportance concerning the broad numerical scope of humanity, EO explores our notions of identity and definition, and our understanding of Jesus as a humble, servant king. EO then expounds a liberating Christian approach to true significance, success, servanthood, and suffering. Lastly, the author examines important concerns such as the mysterious nature of Christian witness, a pastoral admonition for a humble posture if recognition does come, and a brief treatment of our ultimate hope in Christ. Throughout, EO illuminates every point through exposition of the Bible, and remains close to the text.

The overall structure and primary theme of EO is sound and pastorally helpful. If I may borrow a medical analogy, if the diagnosis is obsessive glory-seeking and idol-worship at the altars of fame, success, financial security, beauty, or countless other false gods, this book has the ability to point to the cure of many ills. Why? Because this book points to God as the source of all we have, the one deserving all our glory, and the fount of all dignity and worth.

God is great, and we are but bit-players in his grand drama. Granted, that is an overstatement. And perhaps this is where EO exhibits its shortcomings. In an effort to demonstrate just how obscure, how insignificant and how small we are in comparison the largesse of our world, EO whittles us down too far. When John the Baptist was approached by his disciples concerning the crowds that were leaving him and gravitating toward Jesus, he replied, "He must become greater; I must become less." Not nothing, less. And Jesus, by virtue of his "obedience unto death--even death on a cross" was not relegated to the obscure, but was instead lifted to the highest place, as Paul says in Philippians 2. These themes are explored by EO to a degree (Phil. 2 is a key text for Chapter 3), but the implications for us are not drawn out as well as they could've been.

Human beings have dignity and worth not because of what we do or achieve, but because we are first created in God's image (Gen. 1:27) and are being restored by virtue of Christ's work on the cross (2 Cor. 5:17, amplified by the argument in 2 Cor. 1-4). We are being "made new" by virtue of Christ's life, death, and resurrection, and through the power available to us through faith in him. We are, therefore, of inestimable worth.

We may be obscure in relation to the relative population of the earth, but we are not obscure to the One who really counts (a point made in Chapter 4, "Embracing Significance", but not carried strongly enough throughout). We are being redeemed and remade in to something that exceeds all we dare imagine. Instead of "embracing obscurity," we are called to embrace Christ, in whose eyes we are already famous, not because of anything we have done, but because of what he has done so that we might be made his possession (Hebrews 12:1-2). Embracing Christ leads to a life of humility, of lowliness, of service to others, for we have first been humbled and brought low in our calling to serve Christ the King.

Humility, hiddenness, full commitment, service to others, secrecy, peace, and contentment are all needed in greater supply for those in Christ. The writer of EO and I are in agreement that those resources are available. This book points a way, and should be read critically and with care. As I said, many admonitions here can be helpful, but need further nuance.

It may be that my differences with the author of EO boil down to semantics and rhetorical presentation, and are therefore differences of degree, not kind. As a charitable reader, I would like to think so. But in charity, I also must say the points emphasized above were not made strongly nor consistently enough. I believe that "becoming nothing" or "embracing obscurity" are themes that depart from robust thinking on what it means for us to be redeemed and sanctified, and thus are in need of redefinition, or a different scaffolding, if they are to stand.

This does not mean that another book must be written, but that this book must be complemented by the witness of a community, a group of friends. Pick it up and discuss it with other Christians, and you will profit.

When Shealy O'Leary was transported to a different dimension inside the Book of Fennore, she had no choice but to learn how to survive. Her only goal was to find her father who was also transported into this new world. Tiarnan, who had been trapped inside for years, and his brother Liam saved Shealy. They discover the she has a special gift that might save them all. But, there is another who seeks Shealy and her powers, a mage named Cathan. Can Tiarnan protect Shealy from the dangers of this terrible place? Will they find a way out?

Exciting and fast paced, Haunting Desire is an action packed adventure romance that never seems to let up. I was easily drawn into the plot and couldn't stop reading. There were many unanswered questions in the beginning. Who transported Shealy and her dad into the dimension? How can they escape?

Shealy is a believable character who's tough but also full of doubts. Tiarnan, though strong and resilient, has to place trust other people's abilities. Together, they complement each other as they fight to rescue Shealy's dad from Cathan.

If you are looking for a romance with both magic and time travel elements with a dash of mystery, you will enjoy Haunting Desire.

Better Than Edgar Rice Burroughs

Erin Quinn does it again with the third book in her Haunting series. This time she takes us inside the Book of Fennore that we've come to fear in the first two books. It is a land reminiscent of Caspak, the mythical land in Edgar Rice Burrough's book, The Land that Time Forgot, complete with winged creatures, dinosaurs and monsters. In Quinn's unique style, she takes us on a journey you won't soon forget - a journey not only through the Book of Fennore but through the souls of those doomed to live there. Through the journey of a woman fighting to love herself - and who finds true love with a multi-faceted hero, Tiarnan, as well. Her writing is so multi-layered, you'll find yourself reading her books over and over, each time discovering something new, something exciting, something that stirs at your soul. She has proven that great writing and great writers still exist today. I hope she will continue to write more in her Mists of Ireland series. This is an author to watch!

The Mystical World of Fennore, Fantasy and Romance -- A Potent, Mesmerizing Combination

I've enjoyed all of Erin Quinn's Haunting books (Mists of Ireland series) and this one doesn't disappoint. Quinn has such an evocative beautiful style that I'm willing to go anywhere she takes me. HAUNTING DESIRE moves into a realm that is a bit more fantasy than her other novels but Quinn keeps the Irish lore and sensibility that drew me to her series in the first place. I love the chemistry between the main characters, Sheely & Tiarnan. But Tiarnan, especially, is an amazing hero. Flawed and full of self-contempt for his failings and yet strong and sensitive and loyal, he is such an interesting and well-written character. Brought from modern Arizona into the mystical world of the Book of Fennore, the story is both a search for truth, a fight for a future and a tale of redemption. It totally satisfied my love of romance, paranormal and a little bit of mystery.
